Hello,
my English is not the best, but I hope you understand me!

My grandpa was in the 2.WW in afrika.
He was by the german "Fallschirm- Artillerie- Regiment 1" this regiment was by the "7. Flieger- Division".

He come on 4.11.1942 in captivity by El-Alamein.

Later he goes to the USA in a PoW-Camp. (I have a picture with my grandpa and (I think) a italy soldier).

I search more information about this "Fallschirm- Artillerie- Regiment 1"!!!

Has here anyone information about the "Fallschirm- Artillerie- Regiment 1"?

Or give it a other homepage from Italy specific of the war in afrika?

In July 1942, Major General Bernhard Ramcke’s Fallschirm Brigade arrived to take part in the battles at El Alamein. His brigade consisted of 4 battalions and other Divisional units, the 1st Battalion (1st Battalion, 2nd Rgt) commanded by Major Kroh, 2nd Battalion (1st Battalion, 3rd Rgt) commanded by Major Baron von der Heydte, 3rd Battalion (2nd Battalion, 5th Rgt) commanded by Major Heubner and the 4th Battalion (Fallschirm-Lehr Battalion) commanded by Major Burkhardt, an Artillery detachment (Major Fenski), a Pioneer kompanie (Oberleutnant Cord Tietjen) & Panzerjäger kompanie (Oberleutnant Haseneder). It gave a good account of itself in action but was almost destroyed in the fighting around El-Alamein and the retreat afterwards. Many of his men were lost in the general surrender of May 1943. The remnants of his unit were reformed into part of the new 2nd Parachute division in 1943. On 4 november 1942, after the fall of the frontline, coming the pursuit of the allied units and many german was token prisoners on “Tell en Masfra” area, from 1 and 10 Armored Division. Probably also your grandfather.
